Not at the same visit when placed as a bulk dentine substitute. Let it set; place the definitive composite after maturation and bond to the set surface (adhesion to Biodentine improves after maturation).
A calcium-silicate cement (Biodentine or MTA) — clinically equivalent for pulp capping.
1Remove caries; control bleeding; achieve a clean, isolated field.
2Triturate the capsule 30 s; apply to dentine in bulk and fill the cavity.
3Allow initial set (~10–12 min) before condensing or carving.
TIP · Avoid aggressive phosphoric-acid etching of fresh, unset material — it damages the surface.
4Definitive composite: place after maturation — etch & bond to the set surface.
TIP · No Biodentine? MTA is a proven swap — meta-analysis finds no significant difference for direct pulp capping; Biodentine just sets faster and stains less.
